How To Host A Creative Golf Party for Adults

Hands down, a golf-themed party is one of the most versatile party themes you can work with. It is easy to scale up or down, and it works for all ages. Unfortunately, a good portion of the online content and how-tos for golf parties are geared toward kids. While most of what I cover in this post will work in any format, this post will be geared toward adult party themes and ideas.

Golf parties can include everything from viewing parties to bachelorettes to birthdays. How about a girl’s day inspired by country clubs and good times? You can keep it casual or elevate it to accommodate how you want to pull off your party.

We will cover the basics like invitations, decor, food, and entertainment. Additionally, there will be specific additions you can add to personalize your party depending on the event you are hosting.

Invite

The invitation establishes the direction you want to go with the party from the onset. Here is where you will want to decide if you want to go the playful or chic route with your decor, activities, and food. Once you have made that decision, convey it through your invitation.

For an elevated approach, consider leaning into the aesthetics of the country club and classic golf motifs. Go with something simple and classic to mirror the minimal and classic lines associated with country clubs and golf.

For something more playful, you can take the same approach but try adding to your color scheme by incorporating colors associated with the event, like Yellow for a Master’s view party, or pastel greens and pinks for a birthday party.

Here are some mock invites I created to give you a better visual.

Golf Party Themes

A general golf theme can work well if that is what you’re going for. Using the tips in this post, it can be done easily. If you want to add to the base theme, consider some of these party themes.

  • Putts and Prosecco
  • A Master’s Viewing ParTee
  • Game, Set, Match
  • Love You ForeEver
  • Last Swing Before The Ring
  • Tees and Tacos
  • Clubs, Clubs, and Clubs (country clubs, golf clubs, and club sandwiches!)

Party Color Scheme

To nobody’s surprise, these parties are often centered around a deep green. Don’t mistake that, however, as you being constrained to a particular color scheme. There are still plenty of creative options you can choose with the colors and decor.

If you want to keep it classic, go for simple green and white, in reference to the courses, the balls, and the traditional clothing style. Compliment the green and white with silver accents. The silver will add a dynamic element while alluding to the hardware and trophies and while not overwhelming the green and white.

For an even more dynamic and expanded palette option, try out a mix of deep and pastel tones. A deep green and sage combination will create a softer color palette that can work well with browns, tans, and floral elements.

If you want to make it more playful, consider any colors associated with the event. If it’s a Master’s Tournament viewing party, you can add strategically used accents of yellow. If it’s a bachelorette party, you can add accents of sage, gold, or pink.

Party Decor

A few strategic pieces of decor and a few strategic swashes of color are all it takes to pull off this party theme. So your decor will be determined by two things: The occasion for the event and how extra you want to be. You can keep it fairly minimal, or you can go over the top while still maintaining a carefully curated vibe. No matter what event you are using this theme for, take a look at any and all events using golf as a base theme for inspiration.

Using Dark green accents on white decor is a good place to start. You can build on the colors and details with ease. The strategic use of dark green napkins or table runners will do more than you think. The core vibe should be somewhat minimal, so you don’t need to overdo any aspect of the decor. Think about the game of golf itself, the aesthetic of the clubhouse, the clothing, and the minimal but organic lines of the course. These are the elements you will want to emulate.

You don’t have to be so on the nose with the decor if that’s not your style. The use of a textured, round white plate shows just as much attention to detail as the golf-themed centerpiece.

If you don’t mind a few literal pieces but still want them to blend well, choose key elements and places to include your pieces, and make sure they lean into the vibe of your event, whether that’s chic or playful. The key is to balance out the thematic pieces with cohesive, non-thematic pieces. So go with the golf ball centerpiece; just add some beautiful florals for balance.

Green and white floral arrangements, silver accents, and minimal use of grass or grass-like textures will also benefit your decor greatly. The life and dimension will take the party from a kid’s first birthday party to an adult soirée.

Don’t just focus on your table decor; add smaller elements in places such as the food table, the entryway, or a photo backdrop. Don’t be afraid to use kitschy elements; just opt for better quality ones.

Food Ideas

Choose a few golf-themed food items and a few golf-inspired food items, and let them shine. Don’t attempt to make every item on your menu a golf ball or a reference to a golf event because you will lose the cohesion of your menu. Be intentional and leave the over-the-top golf ball foods for the kids’ parties, where they will be better appreciated. Here are a couple of thematic food ideas that I think could work well with a variety of menu items.

Golf-Themed Foods

Golf Ball Cake Pops

Inspiration Source

Throwing a golf-themed party and not making golf ball cake pops is the definition of opportunity wasted. These are almost a requirement. Not only are they perfectly themed but they can serve multiple purposes, being a decor piece, a conversation starter, and a delicious treat all at once.

Golf Ball Cheese Ball

Fruit, crackers, and cheese work for any event, all you have to do is scale them up or down in quantity and quality to fit the event. A cute nod to the theme can also include elevating the cheese ball by creating a cheese ball that mimics a golf ball. This is an easy way to do justice to the theme and add a fun element in an easy, elevated way.

Golf Ball Ice Cream Cones

These ice cream cones are an easy DIY that give more than they take. They look like custom items from an expert baker when, realistically, they are a quick and easy DIY that offers up adorable, cool treats. These are perfect for day parties and warm nights. Even better, you can choose flavors that you and your guests will love.

Cake Centerpiece

For most themes or occasions, a cake is a welcome addition. It’s an easy and reliable dessert and it can create a beautiful centerpiece for your event.

For a golf-themed cake for an adult event, skip out on the over-the-top cartoonish elements and instead go for a more subtle, curated look. A few key additions will make the cake both themed and gorgeous. All that’s left to do is place it where everyone can see.

Golf Themed Cookies

Cookies are an adorable addition to your party, especially a birthday party, bridal shower, or any other event where guests will appreciate favors. They can be customized to your theme and color scheme and do double duty as a treat and favor.

Golf-Inspired Foods

These food ideas are inspired by the signature foods of well-known golf events or places. Well-known or signature recipes are great options to fill out your menu with substance while paying homage.

Club Sandwiches, Egg Salad Sandwiches, Pimento Cheese Sandwiches, etc.

Sandwiches are easy to replicate and easy to scale up or down. You can do full servings or grab-and-go mini bites. Open-faced sandwiches create an opportunity for chic and beautiful moments on your tables. Many golf-centered events have signature sandwiches that you can recreate. Or you can create sandwiches inspired by country club menus or the guest of honor’s favorites.

Club sandwiches are always a good option and a staple at many golf events and establishments. Egg salad sandwiches and pimento cheese sandwiches are signature options at events like The Master’s and offer up vegetarian options while sticking to the theme.

BBQ Pork Sliders

These BBQ Pork sliders are a perfect harmony of sweet and tangy, and they come in the perfect proportions for a party. Not only are these a perfect homage to the warmer days perfect for golf, but they also give a subtle nod to all of the BBQ menu items across varying golf events.

Master’s Peach Ice Cream Sandwiches

This recipe replicates the Georgia Peach-inspired ice cream sandwich you can get at the Master’s. These delicious bites are a perfect balance of fruity and creamy. Guests will love these ice cream sandwiches on a hot day and will adore how portable and easy they are to make and eat.

Drink Ideas

You can absolutely just serve up some quality cocktails, maybe with gorgeous green accessories, and that will work well. If you want to use the drink menu as a place to add some more thematic options, try out well-known or signature drinks related to golf like these options.

Azalea Cocktail

The signature cocktail of The Master’s is the perfect cocktail for events taking place outdoors on a beautifully, warm day. This cocktail is a fruity mix of tangy lemon and pineapple juice complimented with a sweet grenadine to make for a fun cocktail that looks and tastes amazing.

Dewar’s Lemon Wedge

Transport guests to the US Open Golf Tournament with their signature cocktail, the Dewar’s Lemon Wedge. This cocktail is proof that sometimes simple is better. There are only three ingredients in this cocktail, but they combine to create a bright, refreshing cocktail that guests will love.

Arnold Palmer Station

Inspiration Source

There is no better time for an Arnold Palmer than a golf-themed event. However, we are in the business of elevation. Skip the pre-mixed Arnold Palmer and offer your guests an experience by creating an Arnold Palmer Station. Provide guests with batches of Sweet Tea, a traditional Lemonade, and a unique lemonade, like Mango Lemonade. Then, set the bar for them to mix their drinks in the ratio they like with adorable garnishes like fruit slices or cocktail stirrers.

Customized Bar Cart

Inspiration Source

A super fun and creative way to take your party to another level is to create a customized bar sign and bar to fit your theme. The bar signs can reflect the chosen theme, while the bar cart itself is reminiscent of the beverage carts and the bars you can frequent at the course. It’s a fun and fairly easy way to make your party a little more chic.

Guest Favors

Guest favors are one of the last places to both make an impression and lean into the theme of the event. Bonus: if you choose good gifts, your guests will actually use them, which is way better than just taking them home to gather dust. Favors can range in price and personalization to fit your budget and vibes. Anything from cookies to personalized golf accessories, it’s really up to how extra you want to be. Personalized tees, sports towels, crewnecks, and more fit almost any version of this party.

You can also gift items that are useful to golf players, such as bag add-ons, cleaning or storage solutions, or clothing items like sunglasses or visors. Be sure to set your favors up in a cute display. It entices guests to go take a look and shows your attention to detail.

Party Specific Additions

Viewing Party – The Master’s or US Open

If you are hosting a watch party for the Master’s, The PGA, The US Open, or any other event, you will want to keep your focus on matching the vibe of that specific event. The Master’s and PGA have signature food and drinks you can replicate. Additionally, each event has specific branding and colors that you can add to the event to make it an intentional reference to the event.

Because viewing parties can be somewhat simple if you want to make it more dynamic to fit your personal preferences, create custom activities. Create a game around guessing anything from winners and scores to things said by the announcers. Have fun with it!

Birthday ParTee- FourTee

You have a few options when it comes to birthday parties, but in particular, you have two ways to play with the puns. You can throw any age birthday party if you make it a ParTee. If you want to give it even more fun and specificity, you can celebrate any birthday that allows you to play with the word tee. Think ThirTee-Three or FourTee.

Creative additions to a birthday party include items for the actual party such as golf ball candles on the cake or golf club cake toppers. If you want to go the favor route consider personalized ball and tee holders. They are not too expensive but make a big impression.

Bachelorette Party -Love You ForeEver

For a bachelorette party, be sure to think about customizing items for bridesmaids, either in the proposals or for a particular day. Put into the bags items that are both useful and a chance to showcase the theme, such as custom visors, shirts, or sunglasses.

Custom towels with a unique logo or brand for the event provide something useful and a souvenir, which can be useful during a trip and when the guests go home.
